Carles Puigdemont, the democratically elected Catalan leader who fled Spain has been detained in Germany, whilst Clara Ponsatí, who fled to Scotland, is to hand herself over to police, according to their lawyers. An arrest warrant had been issued for Puigdemont in Finland after the former president visited the country for talks with lawmakers. He was returning to Belgium, where he lives in self-imposed exile, when he was detained by German authorities after crossing the border from Denmark.

The authorities in Antwerp who are investigating a gang-rape involving five men raping two young Dutch women, have arrested four young men on suspicion of gang-raping two Dutch women in a hotel in Antwerp early on Saturday morning. Three of them admitted to being in the hotel, but deny raping the young women. The fourth, Mohamed S., 22, confessed, according to his lawyer.

The Five-Star Movement has come out clearly as the top individual party in Italy's election on Sunday, while the anti-immigration Lega has also outperformed expectations, the first exit polls suggest. The RAI exit poll predicted 30.5 percent for the Eurosceptic, anti-corruption Five Star Movement, and pegged Lega on a par with its coalition partner, the Silvio Berlusconi-led Forza Italia, at 14.5 percent. The ruling socialist Democratic Party was predicted to gain 22 percent of the vote.

Deportation or jail: Israel gives African migrants 60-day deadline to leave country  and has started issuing deportation orders to African migrants, giving them 60 days to return to their home countries or opt for an unnamed safe haven. Those failing to meet the deadline risk being sent to prison. Israel's Population, Immigration and Border Authority delivered the first batch of notices Sunday, telling migrants they have to leave before April 1. The notification says the government arranged their relocation to “a safe third country.” In addition to the travel documents and free plane tickets, the migrants will receive a $3,500 cash payment.
