Carles Puigdemont, the democratically elected Catalan leader who fled Spain has been detained in Germany, whilst Clara Ponsatí, who fled to Scotland, is to hand herself over to police, according to their lawyers. An arrest warrant had been issued for Puigdemont in Finland after the former president visited the country for talks with lawmakers. He was returning to Belgium, where he lives in self-imposed exile, when he was detained by German authorities after crossing the border from Denmark.

A group spanning government departments has been launched to clamp down on the propagation of fascism and other totalitarian regimes, government spokesperson Joanna Kopcińska has said. The group will also tackle hate crimes related to ethnicity, nationality, race and religion. It will include officials from the interior, justice, foreign and culture ministries, alongside the police, border guards, the Internal Security Agency and the national prosecutor’s office.

The Five-Star Movement has come out clearly as the top individual party in Italy's election on Sunday, while the anti-immigration Lega has also outperformed expectations, the first exit polls suggest. The RAI exit poll predicted 30.5 percent for the Eurosceptic, anti-corruption Five Star Movement, and pegged Lega on a par with its coalition partner, the Silvio Berlusconi-led Forza Italia, at 14.5 percent. Last month 511,415 people were on the outpatient waiting lists in public hospitals that drag on for years and years. Waterford for instance seems to have become more known for its accelerated "diversity" enforcement than for its 7 year Hospital waiting list!
