50,000 Outpatient and Medical Appointments to be Cancelled Today as Nurses Strike Goes Ahead

“Paltry and tokenistic” is how Labour’s health spokesperson Alan Kelly has described proposals by Minister for Health Simon Harris and Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe for new talks on resolving the nurses dispute which should focus on issues relating to staffing levels and working conditions but not pay. He told Newstalk Breakfast that the offer was in fact “kind of insulting” and that be believed there would be a compromise eventually and that both sides should “sit at the table and talk.” Mr Kelly said he believed there will be compromise eventually and he asked why the Government could not come up with a solution now without putting the public through a long strike and hardship. He denied that if Labour were in Government the situation would be the same, “fiscally we didn’t have the same space, there is more elasticity now. If we were in Government we wouldn’t have gotten to this place.” The Tipperary TD said he had

59 Candidates Declare for MEP Elections in Ireland – Still Far Too Few Eurosceptics

DUBLIN is set to be the ‘group of death’ in the European election as three ex-ministers, a sitting MEP, the President’s daughter and a well-known TD vie for just three seats. Nominations for next month’s elections closed this afternoon with 59 candidates putting their names forward across the three constituencies. The competition is expected to be fierce after the UK’s decision to hold their own vote, pending their departure from the EU. Ireland was to gain two extra seats – one each in Dublin and Ireland South – but these will now be put into ‘cold storage’ until Brexit actually happens. This means the battle in the capital will be fascinating. Sinn Féin’s Lynn Boylan is the only sitting MEP to defend her seat after Brian Hayes (FG) and Nessa Childers (Independent) decided to step down. Former Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald will be fighting to retain the Fine Gael seat, while ex-children’s minister Barry Andrews wants to retake a se

A Convicted Thief and Failed Asylum Seeker From Guinea, with a deportation order, jailed for Jumping on Bonnet of Patrol Car in Limerick City

A GUINEAN national was sentenced to one months’ imprisonment for his role in a bizarre incident during which a garda car was damaged. Ousmane Baah, aged 29, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a criminal damage charge relating to an incident which happened at O’Connell Street on December 31, 2017. Inspector Dermot O’Connor told Limerick District Court, Mr Baah, had ‘jumped’ onto the bonnet of an unmarked patrol car while it was stopped at traffic lights. The bonnet, he said, was dented and around €250 worth of damage caused to the vehicle. The defendant, who received a three month prison earlier this month for a theft offence in Dublin, also admitted stealing a bottle of Huge Boss perfume, worth €79, from Debenhams, O’Connell Street on February 16, last. Solicitor Sarah Ryan said her client, who has more than 60 previous convictions, was not in a position to pay compensation given his circumstances. Mr Baah, who has lived in Ireland for more than

A Week of “Hell” in EU – Juncker’s Job is Hell and Tusk Damns Brexiteers to Hell!

In the latest frustrated comment from the EU as Brexit dealings crumble, European Commission boss Jean-Claude Juncker said his job in Brussels was “hell.” The quip came after another top EU official spoke of a hell for Brexiteers. The Devil’s domain was first mentioned by EU Council president Donald Tusk, when he lambasted the UK authorities over their attempts to change the already negotiated withdrawal agreement with the bloc. “I have been wondering what the special place in hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan to deliver it safely,” Tusk said. Juncker was next to appear before the cameras in Brussels on Wednesday. The fun-loving EC chief, who was previously filmed mocking UK PM Theresa May’s dancing moves, just couldn’t let such a fiery comment as Tusk’s lie. “I’m less Catholic than my good friend Donald. He strongly believes in heaven and by opposite in hell. I believe in heaven and I’ve never seen

Abortion is NOT politics! Kids who were saved from abortion thank Donald Trump for pro-life policies with a letter campaign

Stanton Healthcare, a Boise, Idaho-based pro-life women’s clinic with affiliates across the country and internationally, announced today that it will bring letters from children across the United States to President Trump thanking him for implementing pro-life policies. “During the 2019 March for Life and Roe v. Wade memorial in Washington, D.C., Stanton Healthcare is bringing young children to our nation’s capital whose lives have been saved from abortion,” said Brandi Swindell, Stanton’s Founder and CEO. “They will not be coming alone, however. They will be bringing thank you letters and cards to President Trump from children all across America thanking our President for his courageous stand for life and working to end abortion. Suddenly, abortion is no longer a political issue but an issue involving real children and their futures.” The group believes this initiative, called “Thank U Mr. President,” will “change the narrative on abortion in our
