This week Hollywood Developments started work at Balseskin Refugee Reception Centre in Finglas, North Dublin, to double the capacity of asylum seekers from 350 to 700 residents, as Ireland flings opens its doors to all comers from Africa and Asia. A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured in Minden, Germany after a drunk Afghan refugee dragged her off a bus by her hair, causing her to be run over while trying to escape the man. According to a police statement, the girl was repeatedly harassed by the 22-year-old Afghan refugee while she waited at a bus terminal in Minden, near Hanover, with her 14-year-old friend just before 9pm local time on Saturday. The girl and her friend sought safety from the man, and his 21-year-old friend, by running to a nearby vehicle, where the driver let them on. However, the persistent pair also got onboard and the 22-year-old dragged the girl from the bus by her hair – after it had started to move. The girl slipped and fell beneath the bus, which ran over her legs, leaving her with “severe injuries,” police said. Highly organised Nigerian gangs are earning “extremely high profits” from trafficking children into 12 European countries, including Ireland, for prostitution, according to the EU police agency. Victims are often forced to pay off ‘smuggling debts’ of tens of thousands of euro. Europol said victims generate a smuggling debt of between €30,000-€60,000 each — and that paying off the debts can take years. The agency said Nigerian criminal groups are organised into cells, typically run by females, known as “madams”, with men working in supportive roles. A GUINEAN national was sentenced to one months’ imprisonment for his role in a bizarre incident during which a garda car was damaged. Ousmane Baah, aged 29, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a criminal damage charge relating to an incident which happened at O’Connell Street on December 31, 2017. Inspector Dermot O’Connor told Limerick District Court, Mr Baah, had ‘jumped’ onto the bonnet of an unmarked patrol car while it was stopped at traffic lights. The bonnet, he said, was dented and around €250 worth of damage caused to the vehicle. The defendant, who received a three month prison earlier this month for a theft offence in Dublin, also admitted stealing a bottle of Huge Boss perfume, worth €79, from Debenhams, O’Connell Street on February 16, last.
